Maria Poroy's art is a manifestation of her diverse experiences and her unwavering dedication to her craft. She often begins her artistic process with dreams that manifest into striking paintings, embracing the unexpected twists and turns along the way. Her works bear the marks of past masters and the influence of contemporary artists who have left an indelible impact on her creative spirit.
Her chosen medium is primarily acrylic and mixed media, a deliberate choice that aligns with her dynamic artistic process. These materials afford her the ability to experiment with layers, all of which dry rapidly, enabling her to manipulate the paint with a range of tools, including brushes, her own hands, and unconventional implements. It is the spontaneity of large brushes and the delightful unpredictability of dripping paint that infuses her work with vitality.
"I have traveled the world and live in beautiful California but have also been inspired by poetry and the patterns and textures found in old buildings. Sometimes I dream a painting before I paint it, Sometimes I have a concept but the painting takes over and goes somewhere else.
I am inspired by the masters of the past and so many brilliant living artists I have been honored to learn from. Often asked to demo, people are intrigued by the colors and textures in my work. I prefer acrylic and mixed media because many layers dry quickly and I can manipulate the paint with brushes, my hands, and a collection of unusual tools. I love the spontaneity of large brushes and dripping paint. I enjoy experiments with the media and often incorporate several in a painting. For me it's not about the media so much as getting the effect I want." - Maria Poroy
