Belgian artist Wim Van Borm was featured in a recent publication, sharing insights into his captivating sculptures and the inspiration behind his work. With a unique blend of organic forms and modern expression, Van Borm’s creations reflect his innovative approach to contemporary art. We are proud to represent him at The American Art Gallery, where his sculptures continue to resonate with art lovers and collectors alike.

Art gallery The American Art Gallery from Carmel-by-the-Sea in California has recently started collaborating with visual artist Wim Van Borm from Antwerp. However, Antwerp residents who want to admire and purchase his works don’t have to go that far, as the Pjez Unik gallery in Antwerp's Kloosterstraat also permanently exhibits his work.
In the Pjez Unik gallery, Wim's sculptures are in the perfect setting, as each one is a unique, handmade creation. “My sculptures are snapshots of specific moments in life,” says Wim. “These could be people dancing, loving, and caring, or an animal jumping, resting, and playing. I try to capture the energy of the moment and translate it into a sculpture.”

Wim: “I am fortunate that I don’t have to live off my art; being an artist is not my main profession but it is my main passion.
In addition to being a visual artist, Wim is also a sports photographer. “Sports photography is also about capturing moments, but there I have the luxury of shooting 30 frames per second and choosing the best shot. With a sculpture, it has to be perfect immediately.”
The American Art Gallery discovered Van Borm’s work on his Instagram page. “They contacted me via a private message. At first, I wasn’t sure if it was real, but after some chatting and a video call, it turned out that the gallery was genuine and really interested in my work.”
Currently, only the sculpture ‘Raw Power’ by Van Borm is in The American Art Gallery. “Last month, Pjez Unik spotlighted my works. Each month, they showcase two artists with a special exhibition at the back of their gallery. Once that is over, the sculpture ‘We Are One’ will probably be shipped to California,” says Wim proudly.
Peggy and Jurgen, owners of Pjez Unik, and Wim.
“I have been collaborating with Peggy de Meue and Jurgen Van Steen of Pjez Unik for more than six years. They are truly gallery owners with their hearts in the right place. A few years ago, a disabled woman with limited financial means wanted to buy one of my works. Peggy and Jurgen made an agreement with her to reserve the piece, giving her time to save up for the purchase.”
No outrageously expensive bananas
Jurgen: “We aim to have art for everyone. All budgets, all styles, all techniques. As much variety as possible, because everyone has different tastes. All the artists we work with share the same vision: art should be accessible to everyone.”
“Beautiful art doesn’t have to be expensive. You can find small works here for under 100 euros. You won’t see any outrageously priced bananas hanging here,” Peggy laughs. “Most of the artworks here cost between 250 and 3,000 euros.”
“Sometimes I walk around here without visitors knowing that I’m the artist,” says Wim. “It’s beautiful to see people being moved by my works. That’s the greatest compliment for an artist and more important than making a lot of money. Of course, I have the luxury of not having to rely on it financially, as being an artist isn’t my main profession.”
